Yahna Fookes
Yahna Fookes is a contemporary dancer and dance maker based in Melbourne. She is a dance graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts honours program. During her studies Yahna performed in works by Reyes de Lara, Claudia Alessi, Olivia Millard, Gerard Van Dyke and was involved in an intensive workshop program by international artist Stephen Petronio (New York.)
Post studies, she has worked in a professional capacity with dance companies - Force Majeure and Tasdance and with independent choreographers such as Luke George, Sandra Parker and Jo Llyod.
In 2009 Yahna partook in the international dance festival Impustanz in Vienna where she took professional workshops by re-noun choreographers Miguel Gutierrez (New York) and Damien Jalet (France.) At the closing of the festival she performed a remount of repertoire by Rosas Dance Company (Brussels.)
In London Yahna completed a secondment at the Bonochela Dance Company and was involved in young immerging choreographers program as apart of The Place.
Her experience and interests are diverse and has performed as apart of Melbourne fringe festival, presented work in collaboration with video artists at galleries and been involved in the direction of music video clips.
In 2011 Yahna recently was apart of choreolab with Gideon Obazanek (Chunky Move.)
