Michael Ralph

Michael Ralph

Michael studied dance, singing and acting from a young age in his hometown of Tauranga, New Zealand. He moved to Australia in 2007 to study full time performing arts at Danceworld Studios Melbourne.

His professional music theatre credits include: CATS (RUG) International tour 2007/2008 in the role of Pouncival, FAME the Musical (GFO) Australian tour 2010 as Swing/role cover, and CATS (RUG) International tour 2010 in the role of Skimbleshanks.

Michael has a true passion for theatre, dance and choreography, and currently teaches and choreographs freelance at many dance institutions around Melbourne including Ministry, Centrestage/Showfit, and The Space.

For Magnormos, he was choreographer for Milk and Honey – part of their Jerry Herman Triptych of concert musicals at Melbourne Recital Centre in 2011. He also choreographed Flinders Street, for their “Oz Made Musicals 2010”.

In 2011 his theatre dance piece Mood Swing won the Peoples choice award at the Short Sweet and Dance festival. He also choreographed part of The Petticoat Soiree show at International Cabaret Festival, and a his piece Down with Love won him a producers grant at Immersed Industry Dance Night 2011.

2012 sees Michael producing and creating his own broadway dance show, set for performances in early July.

Michaels classes can best be described as strictly old school with the occasional commercial feel. Always begins with a decent warm up, a few technique progressions and most of the class spent learning choreography.
