Hip Hop Dance for Kids

Hip Hop Dance Kids - Kids Dance Classes
The style of Hip Hop is a fresh new style coming under the Urban Dance banner. Classes are fun and set to the latest hip hop and urban music as seen in many music video clips – particularly those of Urban performers.

As this style rises in popularity, it is becoming more common and many mainstream pop artists now feature Hip Hop style dancers. Hip Hop also features in many television commercials, shows and contemporary movies including “You got served”, “Stomp the yard” and “Honey”.

Hip Hop choreography often uses components and techniques of other forms of Urban Dance such as Popping, where the dancer contracts and relaxes different muscles in the body to create a “popping action” or “hit” as they dance, Locking where the movements are usually quite exaggerated and often incorporate movements to interact with the audience such as pointing or “high fiving”, Breaking which uses several dance techniques sporting names such as toprocking, power moves, freezes, and suicides and martial arts like Capoeira an Afro-Brazilian dance form.

A regular Hip Hop class will start off with a short warm up including stretching and isolation exercises. These exercises teach dancers to move different parts of their body separately. The final, and largest, section of the class consists of a routine where choreography (dance moves that match the music) are taught and put together to form a short routine which is then put to music and danced through.

Hip Hop classes are often confused with breakin’ classes so when selecting a dance class be sure to check which dance style you are booking into.

If you’re looking for a great class to get your youngster moving to music, and improve confidence and fitness, Hip Hop could be a perfect place to start; particularly if your youngster has never danced before.
