Communication Designer Position

The Space Dance & Arts Centre has many facets including a Full Time dance course, kids dance classes, casual classes, room hire, workshops, international guests, rehearsal and audition space and a dance wear shop. The Space also hosts and organises shows and performances including the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
Role Description:
The communications designer is responsible for the overall look and feel for the company throughout all the facets. They look after the design work for branding, advertising, promotions, digital media, performances and marketing. Using the existing brand guidelines they produce artwork and creative elements for various projects, as well as being able to conceptualise new ideas using the existing boundaries of the branding.
They must be able to work in a team as well as being able to work autonomously and manage their time efficiently. Project management and time allocation is also the responsibility of this role and must be well organised. Keeping records of all jobs including times, dates and regular updates is also a requirement.
An important part of the role is liaising with the suppliers such as printers, product producers, packaging, media, etc. A sound knowledge of the print industry is a must, with the understanding of all print processes and supplying artwork mandatory, as all printing is organised through the communication designer. A knowledge in media and advertising is also needed as this role is responsible to booking and organising advertising online as well as in print media.
Communication is a vital part of this role. Whether it is with the management of the company, the staff, the suppliers or clients, the communication designer must be able to convey their ideas and concepts as well as keep management informed and up to date with all projects. Regular to do lists must be kept up to date and reported to management on a regular basis.

- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite 4 (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator)
- Knowledge of Open Office (or Microsoft Office) essential
- A good understanding of Apple computer products as well as basic digital filing.
- Some finished art hands on skills are also needed for mocking up concepts, etc.
- Excellent phone manner and be able to take phone calls and talk to clients if needed

Casual Theatre Technicians
The Space is looking for a creative and innovative live theatre technician to join their team on a casual basis.
Ideally you will have:
- excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
- working knowledge of professional audio and lighting equipment, including the setup & operation of audio/lighting systems for live theatre performances.
Responsibilities include:
- rigging, programming and operating lights for all performances by The Space and outside hires.
- realising technical solutions for desired set, lighting and sounds effects.
